Spring is the time for renewal. It’s a time when nature shakes off the gloom of winter and gets so excited that it dresses up with brightly colored flowers, textured greens, and the sun kissed rays for gold to shine on it all. I think it’s important to take a cue from nature and make changes in our beauty and skin care routines for Spring. For the purpose of this post I am going to focus on skin care. Skin care is an area of the beauty industry that I am particurally passionate about. Your skin is a blank canvas, it doesn’t matter if you use the most expensive, most full coverage, deeply pigmented cosmetics on the planet, if your skin is bad everything else is not going to be as flawless as it could be. Ideally you already have a skin care routine in place, but if You don’t this is a great time to develop one.
Skin Care Hacks – Make these Changes for Lit from Within Skin this Spring
Skin Care Hack #1 Swap Mositurizers
Since Spring is officially here (ok by date it’s spring but I know Winter won’t take the hint) it’s time to ditch the thick creamy moisturizer for something a little lighter. Now when swapping out a moisturizer it’s important to not sacrifice performance for consistency. Not all moistruizers are created equal. When it comes to skin care remember that ingredients matter so always read your labels prior to making purchases. Water is the best moisturizer on the planet so don’t get scared when it’s high up on the ingredients list. My current mositurier fave this spring is Gel Yes Gel to Water Moisturizer from Perfectly Posh. (shameless plug). This gel moisturizer has really pleasant citrus scent and is loaded with skin loving ingredients like orange oil, williow bark.leaf extracts.
Skin care Hack #2 Exfoliate More Often
I highy recommend exfoliating year round but in the spring you can exfolate a little more often without risking stripping your skin of the oils is desperately needs in the winter. Exfoliating in the spring can help rid your skin of the rough and dry layers left over from Winter. You can of course choose an exfoliating cleanser to cleanse and get rid of the dead skin in one step, however, try out an intense exfoliant like Whole Lava Love to instantly change your skin’s texture and overall complexion. The combination of volcanic ash, charcoal powder, and plant sugars packs quite the punch!
Skin Care hack #3.
Add SPF – ok really you should also be doing this year round but in the spring/summer months we are outdoors for longer periods and we need to get more deliberate about sun protection. You know those golden rays I was talking about earlier? Well think of them as golden rays of death. Damage from the sun can lead to aging, aggrevate rosacea, and even lead to cancer. That just sounds like a whole lot of unpleasantness so do us both a favor and just slather the on the suncreen. It’s really easy to layer your sun protection as a lot of products these days contain at least a low level of SPF. From moisturizers to foundation you can find it in just about everything you use in your skin care and beauty game. 🙂
Skin Care Hack #4 Add an Eye Cream
Again ideally you are already using an eye cream, but if not this is a good time to start. The skin around your eyes is thin and very delicate, this is why you show signs of aging around the eyes first. Spring weather brings us outside more often, which again means we are exposed to the sun’s golden rays of death much more often than we have been over the course of the winter season. I am a big fan of Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream. It’s formulated for your eyes sensitvity, is packed with Hyaluronic acid which acts as a sponge for dry skin cells moisturizing with up to 1,000 times its weight in water, resulting in more supple and smooth skin.
Skin Care Hack #5. Update your Toner.
Not everyone uses a toner, but Spring is a great time to test a few out. Hands down the toner I recommend over and over is Glow Tonic by Pixi Beauty. I just can not say enough about this magical product. Glow Tonic is a chemical exfoliant, now I know that sounds scary but in reality it just means it uses Glycolic Acid to resurface your skin, while also cleaning deep into pores and resulting in a more glowy appearance. There is a lot of hype about this stuff because it rocks!
Skin Care Hack #6 Change Your Serum
Odd are if you are currently using a serum it is probably entirely too thick. Try swapping out your colder month’s holy grail serum with a more light weight, yet fierce serum like Neutrogena Hydro Boost Multivitamin Booster. It’s super light weight and releases a good dose of Hyaluronic Acid to suck moisture out the air and pulls it right into your face.
