So far we’ve talked about Skin Care Basics & Why Ingredient Matter. Today we are going to dive right into picking the right products for your face. Your face is the most unique thing about you. Someone might resemble you but you are the only you out there. Your skincare routine should be as unique as your face. Today we’ll go over how to find a healthy routine for you that’s full of naturally based ingredients.
REMINDER: Before you try out a new product, apply a small dab to the inside of your wrist or elbow. Rub it in and wait 24 hours to see if your skin had any negative reactions such as blotchy skin, redness, or outbreak.
If you don’t currently do much for your skin or you’re not quite ready to dive right into a full fledged routine but want a heavenly complexion it’s best to start with exfoliating and moisturizing. Exfoliating regularly, followed by moisturizing, can help unclog your pores, refine your skin’s texture, and give your face a fresh glow. Dispense a nickle-sized amount of exfoliating facial cleanser (you don’t need a bunch) into the palm of your hand and gently scrub in a circular motion upwards from your neck to your forehead, avoiding the eyes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
Follow with your favorite moisturizer. Use a dime sized amount and dab gently. Make sue to let it all absorb before applying other products or makeup.
Learn to Layer
In a skin care sometimes you have to use a cocktail of products to get the best results. (my hair is actually the same way). When using multiple moisturizers, cremes, and serums, it’s important to layer from the lightest to the heaviest. The lighter products absorb quickly into skin while the heavier products help press everything in. Remember to press and pat for best results.
How Much Do I Need to Use?
It all depends on the quality of the product. If you’re using spa quality, naturally sourced products like These you don’t need much. I thought it might be helpful if made you a quick cheat sheet of product types and the amount you’ll need to look flawless.
Washing Your Face
Exfoliate or Naw: Cleansing skin exfoliating are not the same thing. Here’s the skinny – cleansers remove dirt, makeup, and excess oil. While exfoliating cleansers remove dirt, makeup, excess oil plus dead , dull skin. It’s best to use the type of face wash that’s best for your skin type and remember that exfoliating helps other products like moisturizers and serums, work more effectively.
I’m a Little Sensitive: If you have sensitive or dry skin, one of the best things you can do is remove your make up before bed and cleanse your face twice a day – when you wake up and of course before bed.
Serious Scrubbing: Not all exfoliating cleansers are created equal. If you want more serious scrubbing power, every once and a while, use an exfoliant, like Whole Lava Love. It is more aggressive that our other exfoliating facial cleansers and includes naturally based ingredients like activated charcoal and volcanic ash as well as eco-beads to gently scrub your face and not harm the environment. Because nature shouldn’t have to pay for use to beautiful.
Yes, that’s another Doctor Who Reference. #Fangirl. But honestly like any goal, skin care is all in the follow through. You can’t expect your skin to be AMAZING just because you washed your face. you have to put some nutrients back into it. Baby it a little. Dare I say, pamper your skin? We’re talking about moisturizers here. Now we already discussed that moisture is paramount for all skin type. Yes, even my oily girls/guys. In addition to your basic moisturizer there are a couple things I want to point out here.
Tip: The skin around your eyes is extremely delicate. Take care when using any product around your eyes. Many women find that an eye creme works best in this area that your basic moisturizer.
Face Oils – While you don’t want to go overboard with it, a good face oil can work wonders. Why?
- They’re great for all skin types night and day
- You can fight and balance an oily complexion with oil – ‘Tis True
- Face oils can help fight the appearance of wrinkles and blemishes
- They are full of naturally based ingredients
- Patting in a few drops of face oil helps the efficacy of your other skincare products, especially before bedtime or apply before a moisturizer – remember layers.
I was going to type up a very informational section here about skin types and which products from My Perfectly Posh Store i would recommend, but I decided another graphic would be better. Who has time to read that much. (lol) BTW – thanks for sticking around this long. You Rock!
BONUS: Don’t forget your lips. Apply a layer of a good lip balm – none of that gas station stuff – it’s full of bad ingredients, before bed and as needed throughout the day.
